Concerto Class First Round Adjudicators

MURRAY MCLACHLAN

Professor of Piano at the Royal Northern College of Music, visiting Professor of Piano at the University of St. Andrews and, since 1997, Head of Keyboard at Chetham's School of Music in Manchester. He has taught many musicians who have gone on to have successful careers in music, winningprizes and performing internationally. In 2001 he founded the world famous Chetham's International Summer School and Festival for Pianists, now in its 24th season. His recording career began in 1988 and includes over fifty releases. Of special Scottish interest is the complete solo piano music of Erik Chisholm as well as releases of Ronald Stevenson, John McLeod, Ronald Center, and Marcus Blunt. He writes a column for International Piano magazine, now in its 22d year and his three books on technique have received wide acclaim. Recently appointed Patron of EPTA UK, having been chair from 2007-2021, he has also been patron of the Aberdeen Youth Orchestra and is currently Vice President of the Northeast of Scotland Music School. He was awarded a knighthood by the Order of St John for services to Maltese Music, and in 2013 the University of Dundee awarded Murray an honorary doctorate for services to music and education.

ROY ROBINSON

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

A major prize-winning viola pupil of Frederick Riddle while at the Royal College of Music, and a dual first study pupil ( Angus Morrison. He holds a complete suite of performing and teaching diplomas on piano and viola and an MA in music. He also has a background as an organist and vast experience as a choir trainer and conductor. He has taught academic music to A Level, the piano, violin and viola to diploma level, and the violin to RAM Exhibitioners. Roy has organised and coached orchestral and singing courses and festivals for children, and has coached and conducted adult choral societies. His extensive experience as a perforner has included playing viola and piano in orchestra and ensembles and as a solo recitalist. A busy ABRSM grade, diploma and jazz examiner, he has worked all over the world. As a longstanding adjudicator member of the British, Federation of Music Festivals, Roy brings wide experience of performing and teaching.
