Concerto Class First Round and Final Concert

After two wonderful days of listening to 46 concertos, adjudicators Luise Horrocks and Gary Ryan chose four performers to go forward to the final of the Concerto Class on Sunday, 10 March at St Cuthbert's Church when they will compete for the Audrey Innes Trophy accompanied by the Orchestra of the Friends of the Festival.

 

 

Congratulations to the the four finalists:

  • Kristina Avalian - Grieg PIano Concerto mvts 1+2

  • Sofia Shokina - Saint-Saens Piano Concerto in G minor, mvts 2+3

  • Rhea Fitzgerald - Mendelssohn Violin Concerto in E minor mvt 1

  • Euan Kemp - Glazunov Saxophone Concerto in Eb major Op 109

 

The standard was so high that the adjudicators awarded Highly Commended to the following:

 

  • Alasdair Cottee - Vaughan-Williams Oboe Concerto

  • George Brady - Strauss Horn Concerto No 1

  • Louise de Crombrugghe - Mozart Violin Concerto No 3 in G major mvts 1+2

  • Samanza Hussain - Kabalevsky Piano Concerto No 2 in G minor mvt 1

 

Many congratulations to all and thank you to performers, accompanists and our two adjudicators.

The main Festival will be held Tuesday, 27 February to Sunday, 10 March 2024 at various venues.

Final Concert

Come to hear highlights from the 2024 Edinburgh Music Competition Festival, followed by the Final of the legendary Concerto Class. Four talented young musicians will perform a Concerto movement with full orchestral accompaniment, competing to win the Audrey Innes Trophy.
